While I consider myself to be pretty funny I never studied comedy intentionally until I took a class on Comedy, Gender, and Feminist Counterpublics at MIT. During the class, we learned about the history of comedy as resistance and different modes of comedy. We were even given the option to try out making satirical content and trying to find our comedic voice.
Since moving up to Massachusetts I started getting cat-called a lot. Frustrated with not feeling safe walking around where I live I channeled my frustration into a satirical video. My goal was to show the absurdity of the cat-call experience I had and what it would mean to follow the advice I was given.
Working with video instead of exclusively audio was an interesting experience as video editing is out of my wheelhouse. But I think the final turned out well, even if the beginning is a little long and slow!
